Count-down to the LHC - Large Hadron Collider coming back online

The LHC is expected to come back online in just 3 weeks!

The Large Hadron Collider at Cern in Geneva has been fired up for the first time since its high-profile failure last year.

The huge particle accelerator successfully powered some protons and lead ions around short sections of its 17-mile ring on Friday, and everything seemed to be working correctly.

The beams of protons and lead ions were fired clockwise through the section of the ring housing the “A Large Ion Collider Experiment” (ALICE) detector, before protons alone were fired anticlockwise through the LHCb detector.

The multi-billion-dollar machine, built over almost 20 years, was set to launch in late 2008 but broke down after it overheated during a test run.

The relaunch was pushed back to late 2009 as more parts had to be replaced, and CERN was recently scandalised when a LHC scientist was found to have approached al-Qaeda for work!

There is much controversy surrounding the LHC, -recreating the time just after the big-band may be dangerous and no one really knows what is going to happen.

Some scientists strangely say the machine may even be sabotaging itself from the future:

RealUfos would like to know your thoughts on this - is the LHC a safety concern?

I read somewhere that the scientists have cut the energy or power or some such thing by half--from 7 trillion to 3 trillion. Suppose the first attempt had succeeded--and we had to face the 7 trillion effect! So until scientists feel that they were wrong, it's better experiments failed.

There's no danger when there colliding protons against eachother. This sort collisions happens all time in the upper atmosphere or space. Outside earth there are much strongers forces, then what LHC can perform.

Its the propagande media which make people afraid.

In augustus Cern placed the last new magnets into the LHC. Late augustus, september and October there were cooling the LHC again. No protons where injected yet into LHC yet, there only in the smaller SPS collider. Making it ready for injection to the LHC.

I hope they find a superheavy element (heavier then element 114) which destroys Einsteins Relativity Theory. There alot speculation about this theory nowadays in Physiscs.
