UFO Montauk 08/07/09 UFO sighting Montauk Friday August 7, 2009 orange ball seen just like the one in the video posted here:

Upon returning to our Hither Hills State Park NY campsite, ( about 2 to 3 miles west of the Ditch Plains beach where the prior comment was seeing it on the same night), we had arrived by car from a lovely dinner, my wife looked up and said, what’s that? a ufo , and it was an orange ball. I thought I would check online to see if others had also spotted the same as we did Friday August 7, 2009 around 9:45 pm, and I found this video posted July 23, 2009. What is interesting is that it moved into and out of our sight just as the previous, beach and moon over the water of course are toward the south. It moved rapidly across from west to east, and just as in the video, stopped and hovered remaining bright orange and large before us, approximately 1000 feet in altitude, a bright orange globe. Interestingly, the moon over the water in video is similar since video occured on July 4th and our sighting was with the moon in similar position south over the ocean.
Sky for our sighting was completely clear no clouds. Just as in the video, the ufo moved from hovering near the beach to a due south course, swiftly though not at supersonic speed until it was too far and so as with a flying object moving away it became after about the same amount of time as seen in the video, it became too small to see in the distance. Apologies we did not have a video camera to record it.
My conjecture is that it was not a helicopter as we would have easily heard it, as we did other small planes and copters. It was remarkably spherical, and completely silent. If I was to gauge it’s size, I sense based on altitude that it was of a diameter of at least 20 to 30 feet. It exhibited perfectly symmetrical and consistent light throughout. The ability to move quickly and then remain in a hover position almost instantly and then to move with rapidity in a totally different direction could enable one to infer a propulsion system far advanced than any human created device currently known. It is comforting to have come upon this video , and the sighting just a mile away on the same night as we saw it, within a half hour or so of our sighting of the same, confirming our experience was real indeed.
(As a technology professional, I have made the most specific and detailed entry based on memory as possible.)

i was on the beach in Montauk last night, 8/15/09, and saw a glowing orange object flying/floating around. it looked very similar to what i see in this video. i saw this sometime after 11pm saturday night. if hovered around and then disappeared. very unusual and my only conclusion was a ufo. i was with two other people and we all saw this. very interesting...

yep.. saw the same thing tonight--09-20-09 over 10 times. it would follow the same pattern and rhythm and would start out a recognizable orange globe and move rapidly south and disappear.. seems to be the same thing that is in the video and what you all saw.. what's funny is that there were tons of people on the beach enjoying their fires and having a good time, but didn't ever see it. hmm.. what is this? as we were walking out to the beach from our hotel right after sunset, we also saw a weird "spotlight" in the sky that we seemed to be the only ones that noticed - and it dissipated and we could see the vapor trails or whatever it was in the sky for about 10 minutes or longer after it disappeared. it was a night of seeing things that we had never seen before in our lives. definitely weird.

We were also in Hither Hills camping with a group of children and adults on 9/19/09 between 8 and 9pm, getting ready to go to a bonfire on the beach. While we were walking through the campsite, we first observed a similar spotlight (light in the form of an upside down champagne glass) across the sky. We all sat speculating about what we were were observing (a supernova? something else?) It was like nothing we had seen before. The brighter light then disappeared and left vapor trails for about 20 minutes, as the other poster described. We all kept discussing how incredible the image was (it was a very clear night with great visibility). About 20 minutes later, we observed the orange sphere in the sky traveling fast and then faded out. It looked similar to the video posted here. There were discussions about how it might be an aircraft, but there were other airplanes in the sky that appeared much smaller in comparison, but at the same altitude in the sky. Would love to know if there is anything that would explain such a thing as both children and adults were mesmerized and taken aback by all that was seen.

Those orbs you are seeing are helium baloons with candles in them.
The kids light them on the shore and let them fly.
They do look strange!

I just saw this same exact thing in montauk this weekend I was on the ditch planes beach and saw multiple glowing orange orbs floating across the sky (west to east) that simply disappeared in the middle of clear night skies. Don't know what to think of it wanted to see if anything like that has been seen before.

Camping at HitherHills back in 09' we watched a green ball of light move from one end of the skyline to the other changing course instantly and darting south and then it would just hover, a small crowd of people who also were seeing this started to form, others trying to sleep in their tents thought we were crazy.. but to this day I have never seen anything like that night...some kids said yea it's glowsticks tied to a long kite... but there is no way. it was far too high and moving to far and too fast.

Last night (August 23 2013) I observed very similar objects to the ones previously mentioned. It occurred between 10:30-12pm. I was on my deck looking out towards the ocean. I initially looked because I heard a pop, what I perceived to be a firework. Shortly after I witnessed two orange yellow lights hovering. They made no sound. They were not stars, or planes, or helium balloons. About five minutes later they appeared again. This time there was a third light that had a red tint to it. The three lights formed an isocoles triangle and then disappeared. About 5 minutes later they returned and made an equilateral triangle and again disappeared. About 5 minutes later they made a straight line and then disappeared. This went on another 8-10 times. Each time they would either hover or make a shape. Sometimes there was one sometimes three.
