This news report seems to have got the facts wrong, obviously the contrail itself is not a UFO.
The object creating the contrail over Prince Edward Island, is what is in question here. Was it simply a jet? We decided to post this video, as during December 2012 we also received emails from residents in the Prince Edward Island area about a UFO sighting, and would like to hear from anyone else who may have witnessed a strange object in the skies.

It's a contrail which is being blown apart by the wind. Its dark appearance is due to it being shaded from the sun (which I guess is low in the sky or has set) by clouds. There's nothing very odd here at all.
