Most scientists are like religious people, they won't touch something with a 10-foot pole if it's not within mainstream accepted paradigm or consensus reality.
They simply do not understand that all sciences are WORK IN PROGRESS and is and will never be a finished product. Alot of the scientists act like it's the exact reverse! (CO2 caused global warming anyone? Most proponents of that theory say it's time to stop debating and accept it as a reality)
