Could it be a triangle or series of lanterns in formation - your thoughts please:

We took our new Jeep Wrangler out tonight for a night time drive without the top, in hopes of viewing the meteor shower that was supposed to take place. I was already looking up to the sky in anticipation. We were sitting at the stop light at Pioneer Ave, waiting to turn left on W Liberty Ave, when I noticed a big orange flickering light rising above the treetops, it shot quickly to the left. The light reminded me of a floating lantern, but much bigger. My fiancee was driving & got a good look about the time I noticed the light shoot past 3 OTHER red/orange pulsating lights. I then noticed the objects seemed to follow & form an obtuse scalene triangle. Slowly the 4th light disappeared & the other red orange lights moved in to make a tighter triangle. It took more than a minute or so for the shape to form. It was at that time I spent approx 20-30 seconds searching the back seat for my camera. When I started recording we were still at the stop light & the mysterious lights remained relatively stationary for about 30 more seconds. As the light changed I kept shooting through the open roof of our Jeep. As we moved past the buildings & street lights, it stayed in focus, all the while pulsating red & orange. We drove down the street for another minute or two, filming the objects flicker in the sky, still in triangle formation. At about the same time, 2 lights disappeared, & left one red/orange light, which seemed to get brighter before I eventually lost sight of it. The entire sighting lasted less than 5 minutes but left us feeling certain we had seen something out of the ordinary. I have no clue of the origin of the lights or if they actually created a bigger object, but it seemed as so, did not look like anything I had ever seen before in the sky. It left us feeling certain we had just witnessed a UFO.

What time of night did you experience this? Visiting coastal Maine and we saw a VERY similar phenomena: 8 of these lights moving across the sky, very low and very bright orange/red. No sound and pattern was as follows: 1 light, then a set of 2, another set of 2, then another 2, then a final single light. The entire event took approximately 20-25 minutes. Looked at the light through binoculars and could only see the light. There was no strobe or rotating beacon which would distinguish as conventional aircraft...which I know quite a bit about.

Lanterns again!..Light fluctuating, because of flickering flame,is my take on it.............
It was just before 9pm. - CC
hey i posted a video you tube. i took a video on july 28 the lights look just like the ones u saw. all i know i never seen anything like it.people say chinise lanterns but i dont think so. the lights stayed in formation. i guess u have to see them for yourself. we are not alone
We appreciate your comment on what you have seen, and that you've never seen anything like this before, but if the wind is steady, wouldn't it be possible for lanterns to hold a formation as released???..The formation is what catches your attention, but you've never seen this before!?
Just a point to consider...................
Those same lights were seen te same night over Penn Hills PA in a triangle formation. Your location is approx 15 miles away.
I have no idea the probability of them traveling 15 miles and maintaining that same triangle formation. But to me since my research shows they burn for 25 minutes max, they would need to be traveling, what, 30 mph to get to you. Google map says by surface roads it would take 30 minutes. Seems improbable that a lantern could do that ??
From a supplier of Chinese lanterns:
Chinese Lanterns will fly for many miles and as far into the distance as the eye can see depending on atmospheric and geographical conditions. Sky lanterns fly approximately 1 mile high and as far into the distance as the eye can see. The wick burns for 20 – 25 minutes before extinguishing and floating softly back to the ground.
Same triangle seen that night over Penn Hills Pa, 15 miles away. My research shows those lanterns burn a max of 25 min. Google map shows driving to your location takes 30 min. Not sure a floating lantern could travel that distance before burning out, but maybe you saw the tail end. But how would they maintain a triangle shape for 15 miles ?
Lanterns burning for a max of 25min. in a "real steady breeze" might well hold the regular form
in that 25mins.of burn, considering they move as the CROW FLY, a strait line!! But by road as Google map shows, for 30min. How many stops & turns by road, in comparison? and of cause the wind speed in consideration, as the crow fly!?..The Triangle shape, of three points in the sky
can VARY in its shape! depending on the angle, or point of viewing of three points in the sky,
the wind, can just add to that difference!! In my opinion, one light above you, and two to your right or left, does not make a triangle shape! unless they are grouped together in a ALMOST
equal distance. The amusing thing is,if these lights, seen by another, at some distance away! CAN be seen as a triangular shape:) So I give up,with this triangle stuff!! Its all in how you view it.Three orbs in the sky,is always, only going to be three orbs in the sky, or craft of some kind,so why is everyone so focused on the triangle shape? Now if it is a triangular SOLID structure, then that is a different story, and is a relatively new design! I've heard they're our design, mostly! From Area51 I gather, the secret space program!?....................
I am in Carnegie and recorded the same events on Aug. 10,2013,saw one light then another , watch for a few minutes then they went away and came back and formed into one final light
I saw a UFO same day august/10/2013 in Curitiba / PR - Brazil, + - 8 hrs pm local, from west. Orange light constant and far.
Hi, just had a similar experience in Bethel Park, PA. Three objects flying in a linear fashion (orange glow) spread into a wider circle for about ten minutes. Then, they came back together in a triangular fashion and moved at the same speed North. Weirdest thing we've ever seen.

Hey, I saw a light in the sky which is exactly like that one(only 1 light, no triangular formation) it was just there and I filmed it with my iPhone 5 for 2 mins till it disappeared I tried to make an online search to see what I can find but unfortunately couldnt find anything
Look for something in the news. 9 or 10 orange balls "floating" in a consistent pattern S to N over the Maine/NH coastline this evening around 8:30PM. NUMEROUS cars pulling over, not just one eye witness. One, a pilot, said that they were not typical of any flares, etc... Just an observation from sane/sober driver.
Did anyone see anything over Pittsburgh tonight, 8/24/13? My daughter saw something like this with red lights, around 9:30-10:00 pm.
My first light formation was huge over mountains two kids &I me I made another adult get on top o a car to witness it the adult that didn't jump on the car missed out. My sighting was different from yours that it was quick and enormous lights. Be4 this sighting I had only witnessed small ones so far my cheap phone couldn't zoom in on. Since I heard from a anonymous source military intelligence. That was friends with an older famous couple that got abducted to not look 4 them I've reduced my sky searching my first was eleven years ago but then last year on the 4th of july they began to appear. As for the skeptics I dnt know how ignorant they are to defy eye witnesses cuz their was chinese lanterns in the sky if u where outside and a bunch of planes actually one of the ufos we were monitoring that night appeared to be following one. My phone was stolen but again to the fucken stupid skeptics no flash and beacons plus chinese lanterns being in the sky in order for u to compare and contrast means that their quite easy to distinguish.I've seen two in the day and I make people witness em when I see them they been hard to ignore anyways I wouldn't be surprised if it is made public very soon.in the olympics last year in the live lighting one flew by to look it up this month I saw 3
Im from greensburg and witnessed something similar on aug 9th. There were 4 of these lights in the sky hovering in the same spot for 5 minutes or so. They started moving towards irwin area until thwy vanished.
They're laterns you fucking idiots.
wow, who ever is calling us effing idiots is an Ahole! These were not Lanterns! We just saw them tonight roughly 8:30. They appeared out of no where lasted 5 minutes max and disappeared. There is no way people in Maine and people in Pennsylvania saw the same damn lanterns; that is physically impossible! UFO's I believe!
Just saw something just like this in McKeesport (south of Pittsburgh). If they were planes, they were lit up like no plane I've ever seen. And, no I do not think they were Chinese lanterns. Very bright red and amber lights, travelling from north to south. A sight so odd it made me google it to see if anyone had posted anything.
(I posted this description on another site) My wife and I were sitting in our driveway last night (9/26/2014) enjoying an awesome fall night. Over the tree line, in the direction of Plum High School, we saw two bright orange lights moving along the tree line -- one following the other. My wife wondered if they were planes or jetliners, and I thought they were too close together. Just then, two more orange lights appeared but they were in a different pattern, not following one another but stacked. It should be noted there was no sound, and a smooth motion as they moved across the tree line and eventually faded away. To the comments about lanterns, I'm no expert, but I don't think lanterns could move in such a straight trajectory across the horizon. It was weird!
