Wiltshire police said it was "a personal matter" for the officer who, it is claimed, approached two renowned crop circle investigators following the incident in July.
The incident is said to have happened around 5am on July 7 as the off duty sergeant was driving his car towards Marlborough, along the A4 past the Silbury Hill, Wilts.
Colin Andrews, the 'godfather' of crop circle research, who was the leading investigator when crop circles first became famous 20 years ago, revealed he and fellow researcher Andrew Russell had investigated the man's claims.
In a report on Mr Andrews' website, it is claimed that the Wiltshire police sergeant was off-duty when he saw three figures in a field whilst driving near Avebury on July 6 this year.
Mr Andrews' website claimed that the man said he stopped his car at Silbury Hill with a view to approaching the three figures, who were examining an elaborate crop circle which had appeared days earlier.
"I received a call from a contact within Wiltshire Police," said Mr Russell.
"The contact, who doesn't want to be named, was driving past Silbury Hill early Monday morning, July 6, when he saw three figures in the formation there.
"At first he thought they were forensic officers as they were dressed in white coveralls.
He stopped his car and approached the field. The figures were all over 6ft and had blond hair.
They seemed to be inspecting the crop.
"When he got to the edge of the field he heard what he believed to be a sound not dissimilar to static electricity.
"This crackling noise seemed to be running through the field and the crop was moving gently close to where die noise was.
"He shouted to the figures who, at first, ignored him, not glancing at him.
"When he tried to enter the field they looked up and began running"
"I looked away for a second and when I looked back they were gone. I then got scared. The noise was still around, but I got an uneasy feeling and headed for the car.
"For the rest of the day I had a pounding headache I couldn't shift'," he added.

Why not a webcam over the area?
The links to the article are dead. I'm a little worried about the phrase "star-gate". Silsbury seems more like a communal meeting place by civilisations rather than a portal to a civilisation across the galaxy. "stargate" suggests it's a portal to another dimension that some poor dog walker might fall through... It's interesting to think about, but this article is really just a re-hash of one you posted a few days ago!!
I agree with anonymous' call!
i have seen a being in broad daylight there, behaved strange, looked human, but later, after watching him for a while, vanished after entering a formation below us. spent nights up there, flashes of light, sulpher smell, horses hooves sounds 2am. and after research, yes,a portal. which is why i just did a google search and arrived here-and wrote this. and i think as many people AGAINST the tyrannical machinations should focus their positive energies, and i think this place is very special, and may amplify such endeavours...and reverse in ONE bound those who are seeking new world order at the expense of millions/nay billions. we were all children once, and many of us influenced the wrong way as can be witnessed.but reverse and remember as a child. then we're not so different. silbury come to our aid
mmm ok **
mmm ok ?
Yes,i went on a bit there! But it seems people are failing to care whats happening-apathy/pre-occupation/lack of contemplation, wonderment at what/who we really are, finding ourselves etc.
