STRANGE FIRERY UFO OVER CHELMSFORD MASSACHUSETTS AND I-495 SOUTH. SPOTTED DRIVING HOME AT 3:30 PM. Rate this posting:

In Massachusetts at this time of year, the sun in completely DOWN at 4:30. This means that at 3:30, you get near-horizontal sunlight. High altitude aircraft can be in visual range, yet even closer to the terminator (the border between day and night) than the observer. This combination causes the jet's contrail to glow orange and yellow, just like clouds do at a sunset, as it reflects the sun's rays. The result is a fiery appearing contrail. Notice the twin streams separating as they dissipate in the jet's wake?

Meteors do not move slowly. They are speeding through the atmosphere at far greater speeds than this jet. Look at any other meteor footage identified as a meteor and you'll see them move across the sky fairly quickly.

Again: Jet with a sunlit contrail. I've watched them many, many times.; 3:32 AM
